Corruption sees another Polish side relegated

Polish first division side Zaglebie Lubin were on Thursday forcibly relegated a division for what Polish football federation officials say was their corruption-aided promotion three years ago. The club become the fourth Polish top flight side in as many years to be forced down a division due to corruption. "We have seen a promotion owing to corruption in the 2004-2005 season with Zaglebie Lubin. Without this factor of corruption, their promotion would not have been been possible," the Federation's disciplinary commission head Michal Tomczak said. Zaglebie's demotion amid a crackdown on corruption in sport followed hot on the heels of the same punishment for Widzew Lodz and Arka Gdynia, and Gornik Leczna in December. Tomczak said Zaglebie, currently seventh in the top flight, would also be hit with a ten-point penalty and a fine of 100,000 zlotys (27,700 euros). The crackdown has led to suspended prison terms for 17 people, including referees and Federation officials
