Gilberto set to sign for Spurs after medical

Hertha Berlin's Brazilian defender Gilberto is set to sign for Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur after flying to London for a medical. Berlin's coach Lucien Favre confirmed the 31-year-old was in the English capital at the weekend and the 27-times capped Brazilian looks set to join Spurs for a reported figure of three million euros (4.4 million US dollars). Tottenham manager Juande Ramos has been short of options in defence due to injuries and Gilberto's expected arrival should provide cover for Wales defender Gareth Bale, who is out for up to three months with an injured foot. An experienced left-back, Gilberto, who played for Brazil at the 2006 World Cup, can also play in midfield.
