Deschamps next on Newcastle´s wanted list

Newcastle are ready to turn to France's former World Cup and Euro winning captain Didier Deschamps as the Premier League club's search for a new manager drags on. Deschamps is currently out of work after leaving Juventus and Newcastle reportedly want to open talks with him after receiving their second snub in four days. Former Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier had emerged as the favourite after Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp rejected Newcastle's five million pounds a year contract offer. He has an impressive managerial pedigree, leading Monaco to the 2004 Champions League final on a limited budget and guided Juventus back to Serie A last term after they had lost most of their top class players following their relegation to Serie B over the matchfixing scandal.
